The brutal incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 11, 2026, at around 2:30 a.m. WIB, in Kampung Tengah, Cianjur Regency. The victim, identified as TS (69), not only lost assets worth hundreds of millions of rupiah but also suffered serious physical injuries and deep psychological trauma as a result of the savage assault.

From Educator to Criminal

The suspect, identified by the initials MIR (33), is known to be a PPPK employee in the education sector. However, status and position became meaningless once gambling addiction took control of his mind. In an attempt to cover financial needs caused by his gambling habit, MIR recklessly cast aside his conscience and betrayed family ties.

Gambling is not merely a game; it is a social poison that slowly but surely destroys common sense. In this case, gambling became the trigger for a cold-blooded and violent crime.

Trust Repaid with Violence

Cianjur Police Chief AKBP Dr. Ahmad Alexander Yurikho Hadi revealed that the perpetrator exploited family relations as a way to gain access to the victim’s home.

“The perpetrator already knew the victim’s habit of keeping valuables at home. He then carried out acts of violence to seize the valuables,” the Police Chief emphasized.

During the attack, the suspect blindfolded the victim, strangled him, tied him up, dragged him, and repeatedly beat him. All of this was done without mercy, despite the victim being an elderly person.

Helpless Elderly Victim, State’s Image Tarnished

As a result of the assault, TS suffered head injuries, lost two front teeth, experienced pain in his gums and hands, and sustained bruises on his waist. Material losses reached Rp126.2 million, consisting of gold jewelry, diamonds, and cash.

This case is a harsh blow to the education sector and to the state apparatus. When an educator falls into gambling and turns into a criminal, the damage extends beyond the individual—it undermines the moral authority of the state itself.

Severe Criminal Charges

For his actions, MIR has been charged under Article 479 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning robbery with violence, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.

Gambling: The Root of Many Crimes

This incident once again underscores that gambling—including online gambling—is the root of many crimes, ranging from fraud and embezzlement to brutal robbery. The police urge the public not to store valuables at home and to stay away from all forms of gambling that bring nothing but destruction.

The victim will receive assistance and trauma recovery, while the public is reminded that once gambling takes control of a person’s life, position and morality lose all meaning.
